A House For Just £1

The house in Scotland that inspired author J M Barrie to write Peter Pan has been saved from demolition.

Moat Brae House in Dumfries, where Barrie played as a boy, has been bought by a group of campaigners backed by actress Joanna Lumley.

According to the Scotsman newspaper, the campaign group prevented the bulldozers moving in by buying the property for just £1.

However, the paper reported that former owners Loreburn Housing Association will have to be paid £75,000 over three years in addition to the sale price and that the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust faces the task of raising in excess of £2 million to restore the property.

Joanna Lumley has launched a £4 million fundraising campaign to create Scotland’s first centre for children’s literature in Dumfries at the property.
