British residential property prices rose for the second month running in August according to the Halifax index but they are expected to stagnate overall this year and into 2011. Prices increased 0.2% last month and are 4.6% up in three months to the end of August compared with a year ago. On top of a 0.7% rise in July the declines of April and June have been reversed, the Halifax said.

The average price of a detached family home has risen by more than any other property type over the past year, according to new research by Halifax.
The average void period – a key indicator of the buoyancy of the rental market – has fallen to its lowest level for eight years as demand for rental property remains high.
